Since it's mother's day and all, I thought I'd share some of my ma's insights with ya'll. She gave me permission to post some of her e-mail so she's aware of this. Despite what you may think after reading, she really did love us... even when she made us eat in the basement.
"I have just
completed two days of substituting. This experience has taught me several
things:
A. I am still quite capable of
giving a menacing "wolf look," and the more I am goaded into giving, the
better I get.
B. There are, in fact, children
that I do not really like. Yesterday was not a fluke.Today cinched the
notion.
C. Once a student begins the descent
into "repugnance" it is highly unlikely that he/or she is capable of making a "U
turn."
D. My disdain is not motivated
by any particular race, religion, ethnicity or physical feature. To be
fair, I am equally intolerant of obnoxious behavior from all
origins.
E. There was a very good reason that God rerouted my
intent to become a teacher and shoved me through the front door of the phone
company."
Amen. Despite what the average parent thinks, most kids are not "special" or "unique" or "gifted" or any other nonsense like that. But we live in a culture where kids are celebrated merely for existing.
And yes, I pray to God that someone has the audacity to disagree with me so that I can publicly slap them down.
