Just in time to make 2006 "Best Of" lists, The Swimmers have decided to stream "Fighting Trees" for your listening pleasure. I'm very proud of this record, even though I had absolutely nothing to do with it. Enjoy it, and remember to buy the disc when it finally comes out this spring.

Listening to Who/I hear the music

Rough notes... I'm finally coming around. Tuesday I had the esteemed privelege of seeing The Who (or The Two as some call them) and I think I am beginning to see their light. Special thanks must be extended to the kind father of frequent comment contributor Brother Pete. A most of his lifelong fan, the father graciously extended his benevolent hand to my debt stricken and rock starved but eager to learn self and said, "Take these tickets and learn."

And learn I did.

It was one of those slow burn shows, like it's been with the other ones performed by rock vets that I've seen. Westerberg, Dylan, the Stones, and Neil Young are in that file. Me -- nominal, respectful fan until I finally saw them and "got them." Some are like notches on the air guitar strap (Chuck Berry, Ween, Great White) --you catch the show because  "you should" according to the rock code or something and you get the cred at Dewey Finn's academy and move on to the next lecture.

The very impressive part of finally catching Daltrey and Townshend was that they were not afraid to step beyond the hits and lay some new stuff on us. Artists who are still working, creating news works, unafraid of the past, much props go out to that ethos.

All of this newfound respect can probably also be attributed to channeling my inner Vedder and singing Baba O' Riley at the top of my lungs with thousands of other Who fans as the band played. Stellar. I'm also still speechless from finally seeing the Flaming Lips, and some of that might be coming through here as well. Either way, The Who gained a new fan a few days ago.

Oh, and the Who Are You post from a few days ago was meant as a little hint. Off to the crime lab.

Who Are You

Our summertime guilty pleasure: CSI. I picked up a DVD from the Newark library one day because it was all they had left. Since then pseudo investigatory language has seeped into our household vernacular. EX: Our recent renovations have led to several traces of blood evidence being found throughout the rooms of our second floor.

We recently stayed at a hotel in Anderson, Indiana and during my preliminary walk through of the premises I noted fecal evidence above the toilet paper dispenser. That's another story.

Any Way the Wind Blows

This is what it's all about.

My little bro-in-law (he could probably beat me in a fight) sent me this video. How cool is that? It's getting me stoked to see the Lips, and many others, later this month. I still can't beleive we're finally going to see them. We're taking Todd and his special buddy to the big show. No doubt, all of our lives will be changed forever and we will see the soul and truth in music like never before. We might even buy matching tee shirts.

Road Tunes

I'm creating a series of road trip/off-to-see-America mixes for an associate who's doing just that with his family this Summer. I'm pretty overdue on fulfilling this promise and I want to get cracking on it before we enter the abyss of home ownership. If you have any track ideas for the mixes, I'm definitely open to your suggestions. Maybe I'll post images of the final lists for ya'll to gaze upon in wonder. And if they're good enough, I might make a few extra batches to share.
